In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!

Reform Historic Architectural Review Board. Now.
Our Historic Architectural Review Board (HARB) is steeped in corruption, as evidenced by HARB CHAIR LEN WEEKS destroying 211-year-old DON PEDRO FORNELLS HOUSE, working without permits, then being fined only $3600 by Code Enforcement (max. fine was $10,500), after which estimable City ATTORNEY ISABELLE CHRISTINE LOPEZ hugged ex-Mayor WEEKS. It appears that Board membership is titled toward board members getting new business. Serve long enough on a Board and you get elected to City Commission: historically, until recently, that was the "recuirtment pattern," as political scientists and organizational psychologists would call it. That ended with the election of Nancy Shaver as Mayor and Todd Neville as Commissioner last year, and it was interesting to hear JOE BOLES and JOHN VALDES and supporters say that they should wait their turn and go serve on some board before running for office.
HARB and our City Hall are smeared, bleared and teared in corruption involving destruction and demolition of historic properties and neighborhoods. Only adoption of the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore stands a chance of stopping the corrupters and Temple Destroyers (as John Muir called them) from destroying our culture, history, nature and way of life. www.staugustgreen.com
