When I was a law student in Memphis, I was honored to clerk for labor attorney Dan M. Norwood, a government watchdog who at least thrice sued local city councilmen for voting themselves illegal pay raises. He had a winning record and made Memphis and Shelby County officials obey the law.
I know nothing about the law of the pay raise for elected officials in Florida. But it seems to me that a 25% pay increase in one fell swoop might be a bit much.
Orange County, Florida is like St. Johns County, Florida, both under the rubric of one-party rule:
Orange County has all Democratic Commissioners.
St. Johns County has all Republican Commissioners.
Do weird, weak Florida ethics and election laws empower one-party rule?
Do gerrymandering and fake write-in candidates game the system?
What do you reckon?
