In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!

Is St. Johns County Commission Vice Chair Tom Manuel Getting Too Big for His Briches?

Editor: Last year, I voted for Tom Manuel for St. Johns County commissioner knowing that he would do a superb job cleaning up the mess of the incumbents who got voted out. He has indeed promised to help turn this county around regarding fiscal responsibility and other issues which he is doing but only with the help of Commission Chairman Ben Rich and Commissioner Ron Sanchez. I and others have watched numerous commission and other meetings and have noticed a big change in Manuel it's called "I am God'' syndrome. I believe it's time for Manuel to have a serious reality check with himself and come back down to earth. Please don't cut people off when they are trying to have a conversation with you or speak over them. You are not always right all of the time. Take the time to listen to your constituents and others. If you have other future political aspirations in mind, keep in mind that you are judged on how you treat people and who you associate yourself with. Remember, you can also be voted out of office just like the person that was voted out of office in favor of you.
