PROCLAMATION

APPRECIATING the role of St. Augustinians in electing and honoring our next President;

HONORING the diversity of our city and our country;

CELEBRATING the historic contributions of the people of St. Augustine to the civil rights history of the United States of America and particularly the 1964 Civil Rights Act;

RECOGNIZING the historic nature of the upcoming 450th anniversary of our City's founding, and the journey traveled by the people of the City of St. Augustine, from slavery to freedom;

WELCOMING the historic 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, and the Vice President Joseph Biden, Jr.;

THEREFORE BE it resolved that the City of St. Augustine declares Tuesday January 20, 2009 to be "Coming Together..." Day and encourages people to join in celebration at our Plaza de la Constitución that day.
