Letter: Public deserves respect at meetings

Letter: Public deserves respect at meetings

Editor: As Aretha Franklin sings, respect, that's what we need.

To St. Augustine elected commissioners and city staff who are respectful to the public at commission meetings, let me say thank you.

Unfortunately, sarcastic remarks directed to public speakers and residents sitting in the audience have increased since the 2008 election.

Guess that's the price some of us have to endure as we exercise our constitutional right to free speech.

To the verbal abusers, let me remind you of the instructions Mayor Joe Boles received from his mother. If one can't say anything nice, don't say anything. Manners matter.
