Attorneys for former St. Johns County Commission Chairman Tom Manuel learned Thursday that U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard had granted their motion to move Manuel's trial back to June.

The trial had been set for April 6 in Jacksonville.

William Sheppard and D. Gray Thomas of Jacksonville said that evidence in this case is "voluminous and involves numerous recordings and transcripts that need to be reviewed and analyzed."

Federal prosecutors did not oppose the motion.

In addition, the judge did not rule on Manuel's motion to "modify his travel restrictions" from April 3 to April 13 and visit New England to attend the christenings of his three new grandchildren.

That service will be held at a Congregational church in New Canaan, Conn.

Manuel said Thursday that his most recent grandchild was born two weeks ago.

However, permission to go must come from his assigned magistrate judge, not Judge Howard. Prosecutors did not object to this motion either, and Manuel expects it to be granted.
