City celebrates Archaeology Month

City Archeologist Carl Halbirt and Assistant Archaeologist Melissa Dezendorf are celebrating archaeology month in March at the St. Augustine & St. John's County Visitor's Information Center.
Halbirt will give two unique presentations twice a day for the next two Fridays. The presentations are being offered as a public outreach program from the Division of Archaeology of the City of St. Augustine.
"Exploring St. Augustine's Buried Past" will be presented on Friday and the presentation "Artistic Expression in the Archaeological Record" will be held March 27.
The presentations will be at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m. in the theater at the VIC. Seating will be first-come, first-served.
Seating capacity is for approximately 60 people.
The presentation March 13 was "The Case of the Disarticulated Donkey."
Available in the VIC gift shop will be T-shirts with the '"disarticulated donkey" image (above) and canvas bags with a 17th-century medallion image of St. Onofrius, patron saint of weavers and jurists.
The medallion was found by Halbirt at the Casa del Hildago in 2005.
The presentations are held in concert with the State of Florida Archaeology Month, which has been held during March since 1992.
Parking is at the Downtown Parking Facility, adjacent to the VIC.
