At least one Florida newspaper is already published by a non-profit corporation. Senator Kerry's idea has merit. (See below).
Of course, if MORRIS COMMUNICATIONS became a non-profit, IRS' rules would keep Morris family members from feathering their own nests.
No more antitrust lawsuits to try to obtain PGA Tour real-time golf score information useful only to professional gamblers.
No more gambling flights to Monte Carlo for the purpose of inspecting the Morris family's radio station (only English-speaking radio station in the Principality of Monaco).
Who knows, if MORRIS COMMUNICATIONS were a nonprofit corporation, perhaps news would be published, instead of fluff and flummery.
Who knows, perhaps local environmental and community activists would have a seat at the table, and on the Board of Directors (along with union organizers).
Who knows, perhaps the newspaper would no longer report every handout from the likes of St. Augustine City Manager WILLIAM B. HARRISS as if it were holy writ?
