At tonight's Anastasia Mosquito Control Commission of St. Johns County meeting (5 PM, 500 Old Beach Road, St. Augustine Beach), the issue of Dibrom is expected to be discussed in the context of a proposed five-year plan.
Also, the notion of the District buying a helicopter is expected to rear its ugly head again.
And discussion is likely on the proposed new building.
In short, expect a hot time on Old Beach Road in the old town tonight.
Public participation is both desired and required -- as Bill Hamilton's excellent Op-Ed article (below) explains, the AMCD was wrong to spray Dibrom from helicopters, reversing its policies against use of organophosphates.
AMCD must do more to use natural pesticides. Stop the madness of poisons.
AMCD uses Bti (an Israeli-developed bacillus that kills larvae).
AMCD uses Gambusia fish (which eat larvae).
AMCD bought bat houses (but not bats) for mosquito control and our District Director correctly points out that few bats are in them. Buy some bats, please.
We fought hard to stop purchase of a helicopter without competitive bidding.
We're watching AMCD and working to hold it accountable.
We're not going to let government officials poison our county any further.
AMCD's Mission Statement requires true scientific peer review and public hearings on decisionmaking. No more "dry-labbing" or "warm fuzzies" please -- that's the scientific and engineering equivalent of perjury, respectively.
Questions need answers.
Aerial neurotoxin spraying by governments must end.
AMCD must be reformed.
