Report regrets its error in not checking thoroughly plans announced at Monday's City Commission meeting to ask Dr. James Nathaniel Eaton, founder of the Southeastern Regional Black Archives Research Center & Museum, to serve on the federal St. Augustine 450th Commemoration Commission.
Dr. Eaton, Professor Emeritus of History at Florida A&M University, passed away in 2004 at the age of 74.
He was honored in life as an archivist, curator, and historian, and in death with naming the Southeastern Regional Black Archives Research Center and Museum expansion facility the Meek-Eaton Building in his honor, with his close friend and colleague, former U.S. Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek.
The Report regrets the error in its issue earlier today.
