St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar will address the St. Johns County Republican Club on Monday to discuss the case of former County Commissioner Tom Manuel.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Yacht Club by the Lighthouse and is open to all registered Republicans. Shoar is expected to speak at 7:15 p.m. and will take questions from the audience.
Manuel accepted $60,000 in bribes from an undercover FBI confidential informant and pleaded guilty. He was sentenced in January to 21 months in prison and is awaiting assignment to a prison. Shoar informed the FBI that Manuel was improperly soliciting contributions from a developer's representative, Bruce Robbins of Atlantic Beach, after that person and his attorney, George McClure of St. Augustine, told Shoar of Manuel's actions.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
