It's official. Former Channel 4 anchor Deborah Gianoulis is running for the state Senate.
Gianoulis, who in post-TV life has tangled with state Sen. John Thrasher's education policy as the leader of Save Duval Schools, said she looks at Thrasher's predecessor, the late Jim King, as a role model.
"I want to be a listening representative of the people," she said in a brief phone interview Tuesday after confirming her paperwork had been filed with the State Department.
Thrasher has a Republican primary opponent, but would face Gianoulis in the Nov. 2 general election. The ballots become official after the qualifying period is up at the end of the week.
