Sobel endorses Aronberg, while Gelber camp denounces Aronberg's new mailer

SobelThe Democratic race for Attorney General has been a race that many Florida Democrats have been reluctant to take a stand on, since in most cases they respect both men, but with less than 6 weeks to go before the August 24 primary, that block of neutrality is starting to break.

The Gelber camp was thrilled last week to get the endorsement of Nan Rich, who said she didn’t appreciate Aronberg’s attacks on Gelber related to his former law firm taking on BP as a client.

But on Tuesday, south Florida state Senator Eleanor Sobel came out and endorsed Aronberg, who said:

He is law enforcement’s clear choice in this race, as he has been endorsed by 14 Democratic Sheriffs, the FOP and the PBA. Indeed, he will use his boundless energy and tireless work ethic to be one of the best Attorney Generals this state has ever seen.

And when it comes to one of the most important lawsuits in Florida history — the impending litigation against BP — Dave Aronberg will be the tough and aggressive AG that we need to make sure that the polluters pay.

Meanwhile, the Gelber camp is coming down hard on that new mailer that Aronberg is distributing to Democratic households blasting the North Miami Beach state Senator for the fact that his (now former) place of employment, the law firm of Akerman Senterfitt, has taken on the disgraced BP as a client.

Gelber’s campaign manager, Christian Ulvert, calls the mailer a “new low” from Aronberg.

While Dave is busy taking cheap shots and going the low road on his campaign, Dan has been doing the right thing and acting on principle. Dave is living in a fantasy land to imply there is a remote connect in his slanderous attacks on Dan Gelber. Dan resigned from his law firm (and left his family income) three weeks after learning the firm had accepted a representation of BP. Five days after, Dan resigned (and the night after the firm took him off their website), Dave began calling for Dan’s resignation even though he had already resigned. It really is sad that Dave is using the image of the site where eleven Americans died as a piece of mudslinging campaign propaganda. This is a new low for Dave Aronberg.
