St. Augustine Record:

Letter: Likens Gianoulis to King, Bankhead

Posted: October 6, 2010 - 12:00am

Editor: Elect the best to serve the citizens of Florida Senate District 8. Be ready to vote.

Two public servants who each served 10 or more years as District 8 senator have challenged the next to serve. This office has been filled by two whose terms of office were completed with performance that was without challenge. The candidate that is elected this year should strive for that level of approval.

Please examine the reaction to the performance of the senators in District 8. Can you visualize voting for a public servant who best reflects the potential of working in the service image of former Sen. Jim King or of a former Sen. Bill Bankhead? The record of each showed no desire to bask in the glow of retirement. The record of each can serve as a guide for voters who wish a valid measure of public service for those who follow in their footsteps.

Can we benefit from reaction to their record? Can we respect the opinion of their on the job performance? Jim King was lauded upon completion of his service, "King did more than practice public service. He lived it." Bill Bankhead was described by a fellow public servant of the state if Florida, "Bill Bankhead was a caring leader who devoted a quarter century to serving the people of Florida." Should the reaction to two respected public servants serve to encourage greater attention to selecting the best candidate to serve as senator in Florida District 8.

Deborah Gianoulis, as a candidate for Senate District 8, has accepted the challenge. She has witnessed the on-the-job performance of King and Bankhead. She asks to be a part of the continued service to citizens of District 8.

Be ready to vote.
