Sea wall project complete, part of Riberia Street reopens
One major construction project in the southern part of St. Johns County has been finished ahead of schedule, and a stretch of road in St. Augustine will be opening as another construction project moves forward.
■ Construction was completed months ahead of schedule this week on a sea wall along State Road A1A from just north of the Flagler County line to Summer Haven, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. The original completion date for the project was scheduled in April 2012. Construction of the new sea wall is intended to help prevent erosion and maintain the integrity of A1A in the Summer Haven area.
The $2.6 million project was completed in about nine months, including constructing the sea wall, widening the paved shoulders along S.R. A1A and resurfacing the roadway. The Summer Haven bridge replacement project, which has been going on simultaneously, is underway and should be finished by spring 2012.
■ Riberia Street, from King Street to Bridge Street, is scheduled to be open to traffic starting at 5 p.m. today. Minor construction work will continue on Riberia Street with some lane closures over the next 30 days. The posted speed limit is 25 mph and will be strictly enforced.
