State Senator Stephen Wise wants to rename the annual Winter Break as "Christmas break," and force local school districts to do so. That is so wrong!
Our First Amendment bans excessive entanglement with religion.
Our Constitution protects diversity and pluralism. Forced school prayers are illegal and immoral. Thank God!
Whether one is a Christian or a Jew or a Moslem or a Buddhist or a Zoroastrian or an Atheist, School Districts need to show them respect by not naming the Winter Break as "Christmas Break," thereby stigmatizing religious minorities.
It is time for putative Christians in Southern state legislatures to be more Christian and stop baiting Jews and other religious minorities, using anti-Semitism as a way of getting votes from the uninformed. It is time for them to stop proposing unconstitutional laws.
Right-wingers know not that they know not that they know not. While claiming to support "local control" they want to tell school districts what to call their holidays.
While celebrating "state's rights," they want to require states to honor concealed gun permits from other states (while refusing to honor other states' marriage licenses when the marriages are between Gay or Lesbian people).
Enough pandering.
What do you reckon?
