National Park Service (NPS) certification of St. Johns County a step in the right direction toward St. Augustine National Historical Park and
National Seashore

Yes we can.

On 11/1/11, supporters of the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore were attacked by a few misguided souls as if we were "Communists and Nazis," compared to "Hitler, Goebbels and Stalin," and mocked with simulated gun noises and gun gestures before the St. Johns County Commission. My friend Robin Nadeau, who was so viciously attacked, died in her bed on January 6, 2012, a victim of verbal violence from the Tea Party here in St. Augustine and St. Johns County -- inheritors of the KKK and John Birch Society's meanness.
In the words of Adlai Stevenson in 1963, "I believe in the forgiveness of sins and the redemption of ignorance." (He was being spat upon by a John Birch Society mob in Dallas).
Since 11/1/11, diverse people have united in opining we must protect St. Augustine's authenticity. While we disagree on the O'Connell case, St. Johns County Sheriff DAVID BERNARD SHOAR and I agree on the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore -- he told me in 2011 that it is a "no-brainer."
As LBJ said after Selma, "We SHALL overcome."
Cheers,
Ed Slavin
