We, The People, in St. Augustine just stopped 7-Eleven, a Japanese multinational corporation, from erecting a twelve-pump gasoline station across the street from our historic, protected Waterworks building, our carousel and our library, at a failing intersection. Its building permit was cancelled.
We shall overcome!
Two well-organized communities (Nelmar Terrace and Fullerwood) ably represented by zealous counsel (Jane West), testifying through exquisitely-well-spoken witnesses, before five attentive City Commissioners, who arrived at the correct legal decision, overturning on eleven (11) unassailable legal grounds a building permit that would have wrecked our Nation's Oldest City.
"We band of brothers and sisters" made history yesterday, while preserving our City's history forever.
As astronemer Carl Sagan told our American Bar Association meeting in Atlanta in 1991, our Constitution, like the scientific method, is based upon self-correcting mechanisms to arrive at truth and a correct decision. The City staff's issuance of a permit was corrected by the City Commission, after hearing all of the evidence.
Now we move forward to even greater heights, knowing that developers no longer own our City government, as in years past.
We who love this town are being heard and heeded.
What's next?
Now we work toward the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore. www.staugustgreen.com
A Pyrrhic victory and temporary at that. The toll will be on city residents who will ultimately pick up the litigation tab. 7-Eleven will not roll over without a major belly scratching and there is no one in the present gangster cabal that has the gravitas or skills to pull that off.
ReplyDeleteWhat's next you ask?
Get rid of the illegally and immorally empowered gangster government that owes its existence to continued usurpation of the now scam 'Rule of Law'.
The same government that is owned by Big Tourism "developers", that have grown their own cancerous tourism scam to a size that has attracted 7-Eleven, another gangster corporate player, that simply wants to muscle in for a piece of the big scam pie.
The great sadness here, is that many good residents, who only want to protect their homes and quality of life, have had to get in bed with the odious Big Tourism developer greedy merchants, whose real goal is to stamp out any competition that might siphon off a few pennies from the cash registers in the now totally boring and soulless Len Weeks Mall.
These are the same Big Tourism developer greedy merchants who want to illegally and immorally continue to confiscate your public commons with their (also illegally and criminally empowered) goon squad cop road closures to put on their own quality of life destroying substance abuse greedfest events. Events that make a 7-Eleven look like Mr. Rogers.
What's next?
BOYCOTT!
JUSTICE FOR MICHELLE O'CONNELL!
JUST SAY NO! TO 450!
No balls No brains! No freedom!
Did you watch the hearing?
ReplyDeleteDid you read my comment?
ReplyDeleteWhat don't you understand?
Baloney is the strongest political force on the planet.
Read it. Please answer my question. Did you watch? If not, why opine?
ReplyDeleteYo WC, what up with the anger on such a better than before yesterday kind of day ? What happen at yesterdays hearing was our GREAT DEMOCRACY at work. Nothing more nothing less . If it is only a temp thing, then we are only resting before the next Battle . We the free people of our Great Area will never give up on our Democracy for the people, by the people. We the Free People of St Augustine are ready to re load for any war on our common sense safety. Especially for our highly challenged children, our seniors and our wonderful neighbors ! Thank You

No. I was busy working on personal matters.
Do you have a specific question?
Tom Reynolds, thanks for the weather report.
Ed,
ReplyDeleteAs you requested I labored through the video a sufficient amount to get the full flavor of it.
It affirmed my opinions which I made before watching the portions of it that I did and I stand by my comments. This is essentially a corporate Xtrevilist turf war at the top between 7-Eleven and Saint Augustine's Big Tourism "developers, with many good people like yourself (your comments/quotes were excellent) and many good residents (who still believe in the hopey changey system and the rule of law, both of which have been co-opted by the scum at the top) who are being used in the corrupt process to validate and legitimize the corrupt process. Again; the real goal is to stamp out any competition that might siphon off a few pennies from the cash registers in the now totally boring and soulless Len Weeks Mall.
I took particular umbrage with Nancy Slaver's opening request for "civility and respect" as it this government that is the same government that in the extreme, 'uncivilly and disrespectfully', carted citizens off to jail in cold steel hand cuffs at the point of a gun for civil violations and lawful protest in order to gain and maintain its corrupt power.
It is this government that is the same government that uncivilly and disrespectfully confiscated and banned newspapers in order to suppress political opposition to gain and maintain its corrupt power.
It is this government that is the same government that uncivilly and disrespectfully went on private property without lawful warrants and confiscated and impounded, and trashed into dumpsters, lawful newspapers and political protest materials, many of which celebrated the Constitution of The United States of America and bore images of the American flag, in order to gain and maintain its corrupt power.
It is this government that is the same government that owes its existence to engaging in an on going pattern and practice of knowingly and willingly — and openly bragging about — creating a long string of patently unconstitutional repressive Jim Crow laws. Laws that ban Constitutionally guaranteed FREE SPEECH, art, music, newspapers, political opposition, and the homeless from simply asking another human being for a helping hand.
It is this government that is the same government that owes its existence to terrorizing and instilling fear and compliance in the city's residents, still has many of those Unconstitutional laws on its soiled books, and still sweeps the city of homeless American citizens....
Etc., etc., etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,etc.,
If I appear to be a zealot and reticent to involve myself with these gangsters please consider that I have personally, for over fifteen years now, been involved in and witnessed all of the above. In the early stages of that involvement I participated much like you and Tom. But along the way I have witnessed the early deaths, sickness, and pain of many of my friends and fellow CIVIL RIGHTS activists. Early deaths, sickness, and pain that this ass wipe pretentious illegally and immorally empowered gangster cabal is still imposing on us all and are DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for. As such I consider the present government to be a pack of lying murdering thieves which I refuse to recognize with my attention. For all of the above reasons, and more, it is my belief that a truly honest and moral person would not engage with them. I am not alone. Hundreds of millions of Americans are similarly incensed and opting out.
Many zealous shoes are created by the Baloneywood menticide, many are created in the reality of experience. It is a time for deep breaths and honest soul searching.
Civility and respect are the sine qua non of any judicial hearing, or quasi-judicial hearing. Umbrage? Why? It's not free speech to bark at people during a quasi-judicial hearing, as those misguided souls did to me on June 19, 2014 at the HARB meeting on the demolition permit for Echo House. Play the tape. And thank you, as always, for sharing your thoughts and kind words. Cheers, Ed
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of former Planning and Building Department Director MARK KNIGHT's testimony, including cross-examination? More later. Also, did you watch the denouement? Deliberation by Commissioners, led by Commissioner Freeman, was stellar. This was a quasi-judicial hearing, and the best -run and best-done I have seen in the ten years I have been attending City Commission meetings.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very typical Green Wall of $ilence evasive answer,
ReplyDeleteYou TOTALLY avoid all of the gangster ideal smashing substance that I stated and then you spout back the merits of the same ideal that the gangsters, through their goon squad minions, do not follow in practice in enacting policy, i.e., there is NO civility and respect in their murderous gang rape actions.
You then further request that I once again rub my nose in the rapists illusionary legality.
I give you the rape kit full of the gangsters DNA and you refuse to look at it.

Responded in haste to the part i disagreed with -- you make good points, many irrefragable. Salud!
