In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!

The watchdogs that did not bark
When Sheriff DAVID BERNARD SHOAR and State's Attorney RALPH JOSEPH LARIZZA both entered the national spotlight over the coverup of the Michelle O'Connell case, not one local elected official cared. Not one local political party official spoke out.
Only former County Commission Chairman Ben Rich, Clara Waldhari and Nancy Shaver joined us in raising concerns.
Now, Nancy Shaver is Mayor of St. Augustine. Three cheers!
As to the cowardly bunch who remained silent -- including our St. Johns County Democratic and Republican Parties and all other local elected commissioners -- let them hang their heads in shame.
At least dogs that don't bark have certain charms.
DAVID SHOAR-ostitutes have no charm and traded their silence for continued employment in a corrupt political machine.
