Kudos and thanks to City Manager John Regan and Public Works Director Martha Graham and General Services Director James Piggott for canceling the ADVANCED DISPOSAL, INC. recycling contract effective October 1, 2015. The City can save money with its own recycling program. Pages and pages of complaints by City residents on missed pickups have finally been heard and heeded. At the July 13, 2015 City Commission meeting, an ADVANCED DISPOSAL representative caviled, inchoately and inarticulately, but to no apparent avail. The lobbyist stayed around for the rest of the meeting, without any apparent effect Public Works Director Martha Graham said that Waste Management, Inc., Browning-Ferris Industries and other companies are constantly lobbying for the city's trash collection business. It's a credit to City Hall that our city employees will handle all trash collection and recycling, without resort to profiteering corporations, including the likes of Waste Management, Inc. and BFI, which The New York Times reported decades ago are mafia-controlled or influenced and the union of local garbage cartage companies in mob-dominated cities. Thank you, City Manager Regan, for canceling the ADVANCED DISPOSAL contract. Bless you!
