LLCs are big contributors to St. Johns County political campaigns.
Who owns them?
Let's ask.
Let's ask everyone we elect to ask. Let's ask every journalist from local to The New York Times to ask.
The corruption in St. Johns County has LLCs at the heart of it: this article discusses the problem in South Florida. http://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2015/09/llcs-and-corruption-cash-condos.html
The Nation magazine investigates Miami's corrupt real estate market and purchases of expensive properties by dodgy foreigners -- money-laundering. How much of that is happening in St. Johns County, where LLC beneficial ownership is not disclosed before local government bodies handing out PUDs and other zoning favors? http://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2015/09/miami-where-luxury-real-estate-meets_11.html
We need full disclosure. After The New York Times' year long investigation was published, New York City now requires greater disclosure of property ownership. http://cleanupcityofstaugustine.blogspot.com/2015/09/nyc-requires-llc-disclosure-after.html
Every time an LLC developer appears in St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach and St. Johns County, ask for the names of all the beneficial owners. Don't take "no" for an answer. Expect democracy.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
