No papal or presidential visit for our 450th? Why, were City Hall's all-white managers afraid of offending the local KKK?
St. Augustine, Florida, home of the first U.S. Catholic Mass September 8, 1565 and the first European-founded City in America, would have greatly benefitted from a papal visit to promote healing. Pope Francis will be in America, but apparently not in St. Augustine.
Wonder why?
Too bad our City Administration is so inept ineffectual, delaying for a year sending a formal invitation, mistakenly believing it had to go through "the church" when the Vatican is a nation-state, with whom the U.S. has diplomatic relations. I blame ex-Mayor JOSEPH LESTER BOLES, Jr., prior Commissioners Roxanne Horvath, Donald Crichlow, Nancy Sikes-Kline and Leanna Freeman and Prima Dana (Dana Ste. Claire, the St. Augustine 450th Director), and Lyin' John (John Patrick Regan, P.E., City Manager and "Minister of Propaganda" by vote of his fellow all-white directors in the Nation's Oldest City). While they were in Spain last year, City burghers could have travelled to Vatian City and worked on advancing a papal trip. They refused to do so, despite my urgent request.
Color them hopelessly provincial. Hick hacks. More interested in no-bid contracts and corporation-coddling. Afraid of offending local KKK haters?
Likewise, it would have been great to have our first African-American president, Barack Obama, speak here, or send Vice President Joe Biden. Not happening. City Hall did not even try. Having overcome racism and helped inspire the 1964 Civil Rights Act, President Obama's visit would have also helped inspire healing. Instead, the heels in City Hall focused on no-bid contracts and partying.
Meanwhile, the federal 450th Commission has done what, exactly? You tell me.
Looking forward to further forensic audit and program evaluation of the 450th?
Yes we can!
