SJC To Be In Two Congressional Districts? Judge Terry Lewis Recommendation Goes to Florida Supreme Court

Judge Terry Lewis of the Leon County Circuit recommended Friday, October 9, 2015 that the Florida Supreme Court adopt the League of Women Voters map proposal to remedy Republican gerrymandering. If adopted, this will split St. Johns County into two Congressional Districts:
The new 4th, joining Northern St. Johns County with most of Duval County and all of Duval County
the new 6th, joining Southern St. Johns County with Flagler, Volusia and Seminole County.
This is a big blow to the St. Johns County political machine, which was hoping that it could send MARKY MINER to Congress: the County Commission and legislative delegation had made spurious argument that doubling the size of our Congressional delegation would less our "clout." (They argued in 2012 that reducing the size of our state legislative delegation from seven to three lessened our "clout.")
The redistricting decision is a victory for equality and good government, vindicating the Fair Districts constitutional amendments.
Voters should choose their public officials (and not the other way around).

P.S.: Nothing in Record 10/9 or 10/10 about local implications of Congress redistricting!

P.P.S. The Record is still suffering from the sequelae of illegal age discrimination firings by fired ex-editor Kathy Nelson, who was here but a few weeks before making inane comments about New York Times reporter Walt Bogdanich's investigation of Sheriff David Shoar's mishandling of the non-investigation of the September 2, 2010 shooting of Michelle O'Connell in the home of Deputy JEREMY BANKS.
(But at least Ann Heymann's column is back in the 10/10 Record!)
