SAB Embassy Suites 200,000 Cubic Yards of Fill: How many dump truck loads is that?

GARY LARSON, St. Augustine Beach, Florida Planning and Building Director, said November 12th at City Commission workshop on building heights that KEY INTERNATIONAL's proposed Embassy Suites Hotel will require 200,000 Cubic Yards of fill, adjacent to our Pier Park.  How many dump truck loads is that?
10,000?
Enough to fill in 30 Olympic size swimming pools to a depth of 11 feet?
Enough to make the Hilton Embassy Suites an eyesore, a Berlin Wall at the north entrance to St. Augustine Beach, between our St. Johns County Pier Park and our Anastasia State Park.
Enough to threaten endangered species, including sea turtles, gopher tortoises and Anastasia Island Beach Mice.
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) records show that Key International has applied to use less than 20,000 cubic yards.
GARY LARSON did not respond to repeated e-mails earlier today.
FDEP is on notice of the discrepancy and will act on a permit request by December 15, 2015.
No one has prepared an environmental impact statement of the effects of this massive dump truck convoy.
Read the permit application file here:
For more information, you can contact FDEP, which has not been contacted by the City of St. Augustine Beach (which heard presentations from the Florida League of Cities and an ex-FDEP employee).

Subject: Re: Request No. 2015-415: SAB Embassy Suites 200,000 Cubic Yards of Fill: How many dump truck loads is that? Any FDEP Permits to Bring Through Anastasia State Park?

Dear Messrs. Royle and Larson:
1. Were our FDEP, Commissioners, the PZB or Charter Review Committee aware that Key International wanted to deposit 200,000 cubic yards of fill dirt between our Pier Park and our Anastasia State Park, and the entrance to the City of St. Augustine Beach?
2. When did you learn of this plan?
3. When were Commissioners first informed?  When were citizens first informed? Last night, right?
4. 200,000 cubic yards of fill dirt.
5. From where?
6. On what route?
7. That's approximately 10,000 dump truck loads full, correct?
8. That's enough to fill in 30 Olympic-sized swimming pools to a depth of 11 feet, right?
9. Are Hilton and Key International aware of the implications for public relations and potential litigation to preserve what Henry Dean calls "our village?"
10. Did either of you gentlemen ever tell either Hilton or Key International that this was okay?  Did anyone else?
Please respond today.
Please provide documents.
Cordially,
Ed Slavin

Dear Ms. Smith and Messrs. Larson, Royle and Kasdin:
Concerning Key International's proposed St. Augustine Beach Embassy Suites Hotel:
1. What environmental and archaeological studies have been done?  Please send.
2. City of St. Augustine Beach Building and Zoning Director Gary Larson stated at the November 12, 2015 City Commission Workshop on Building Height that Key International proposes to use 200,000 cubic yards of fill for its Embassy Suites Hotel on A1A Beach Blvd. How many dump truck loads is that?  10,000?  Over how many days/weeks?  Please send any staging or safety plans.
3. Are there any FDEP or St. Augustine Beach permits or permit applications for 10,000 dump truck trips through our Anastasia State Park, which surrounds Pope Road? Please send.
Thank you.
With kindest regards, I am,
Sincerely yours,
Ed Slavin
