Last year, I reported the City of St. Augustine to the National Response Center, a 15-agency intergovernmental group run by the U.S. Coast Guard. In response, the City has been fined as part of a consent decree, must halt its sewage pollution and must answer 387 questions posed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. It is considering ways of solving its longtime sewage pollution, which led many to call traditionally African-American Lincolnville "the Pollution Peninsula."
Once upon a time, when WILLIAM BARRY HARRISS was City Manager, then-Assistant CM John Patrick Regan, P.E., now CM, went to the podium and actually said it was improper for Ms. Judith Seraphin and I to report sewage spills to the National Response Center. He was wrong. We were right. And now everyone knows what to do when they see a sewage spill --- call the National Response Center (or call me) and we'll get action.
We're making the City of St. Augustine clean up its polluting ways.
Yes we are!
