REPUBLICAN'S mocking response to write-in disenfranchisement

Last Sunday, July 3, 2016, the Record printed my column, reporting on my complaint to USDOJ of violations of the Fifteenth Amendment in abusing faux write-in candidates to close constitutionally required universal primaries. here. No response from any of the Republicans actually involved in closing St. Johns and Duval County universal primaries. But today the Record printed a riproaring ridiculing riposte by self-confessed Republican ROBERT T. POWERS a/k/a "TERRY POWERS."

Political 'Twister' a game of shame

According to an editorial and guest column July 3, voters approved an amendment to the Florida Constitution, Article VI, section 5(b). 2,239,607 (64 percent of voters) voted to approve that amendment in 1998. Basically, it says, since we have this archaic party system that represents only the party power brokers, not citizen voters, if an opposing party can’t generate a candidate, only (sic) the party of the candidate running can vote.

Sounds really stupid. It’s not, but the party system is. Sixty-two percent of voters (4,890,883) in Florida voted for Article 1, Section 27 in 2008. That amendment clarified what history and God have made clear (sic) over the past 12,000 to 15,000 years — marriage is a covenant of commitment before God and between a man and a woman. Far more than twice the citizens voted for Article 1, Section 27 than for Article VI Section 5(b).

Regardless, the Supreme Embarrassment (sic) of Florida and the U.S. pulled up their sacred robes and dumped (sic) on the voters of Florida, denying the voters of Florida their right of self-determination (sic). This is not exactly what our Founding Fathers intended when they signed our Declaration of Independence 240 years ago, pledging, “Our lives, our fortunes, our honor” in our American Revolutionary War in order to advance democracy and defeat oligarchy.

This misinterpretation (sic) will result in the universal disenfranchisement of nearly 5 million legal citizen voters.

Wow.

It’s hard to believe it’s true. It’s reminiscent of a time when St. Johns and Duval counties were historically segregated counties, where racism and the KKK persisted in predominately Democrat counties (as a Republican voter in 1971, I could not vote because all political races were controlled by the Democratic party. Republicans, all two of us or so, were locked out).

I’m not erudite enough to know what “shill,” “louche,” “hick, hack” or “uncluck” mean. Honestly, I don’t care.

Context tells me the effort to know would be a waste of precious air and effort. But I do know that if “expecting democracy” means playing Twister (sic) with party affiliation to undermine the voice of those you disagree with is the new American way, we, as a nation, are doomed.
