No discussion. Secret ballot. The Establishment has chosen one of its own, fraught with conflicts of interest. A frequent beneficiary of planning and zoning decisions, A.D. DAVIS CONSTRUCTION COMPANY'S third generation owner could soon be in the same ethical quandary as ex-Mayor, ex-HARB Chair CLAUDE LEONARD WEEKS, Jr., who as HARB chair would repeatedly recuse himself and argue cases in front of his peers. Not a good look for St. Augustine. Matthew Shaffer, who served as PZB Chair, or Charles Pappas, would both have been excellent choices.
MICHAEL ALAN DAVIS is a twice-failed dull Republican candidate for state legislature, failed head of a putative homeless "charity," and his family business benefits from repeat contracts from Flagler College, Inc. and other local entities, as well as Me-PUBLICAN corporate welfare subsidies from St. Johns County Commission as "incentives" for several of his projects, one of which he recently plumped for as a Chamber of Commerce janissary.
DAVIS lost to former County Commissioner CYNDI STEVENSON in a three way race for District 17 in the 2015 special election caused by cascading effects of nonresident former State Senator JOHN THRASHER's politically timed resignation to take office as President of Florida State U.

When he ran for office in 2011, DAVIS played sycophant to Flagler College Chancellor and retiring State Representative WILLIAM LEE PROCTOR, telling the St. Augustine Record: “I don’t have to tell you how much (Proctor’s) service will be missed,” Davis said. “Like Bill Proctor, I am a conservative Republican who believes our path to economic recovery is lower taxes and reining in out-of-control spending.”
Perhaps MICHAEL ALAN DAVIS wants to accomplish something in life (besides make money), with some actual government service, before he runs for office the third time. Bolesians believe that PZB could serve DAVIS as a stepping stone once State Rep. Cyndi Stevenson is term-limited.
On his political Facebook page, he ululated ultra-conservative rightist ideations unadorned by any sense of grammar or capitalization or irony, actually saying "We (sic) need government to be a partner of small business, not a barrier" stating in haec verba:
I am a conservative businessman, a lifelong republican, I am pro-life, and I strongly support our second amendment. My experience as a business owner drives me to help get government out of the way of the growth and success of Floridabusinesses. We need government to be a partner of small business, not a barrier. Government doesn’t create jobs, businesses do; we have to stop raising taxes and must reduce government waste and spending.

Without a reform Mayor, the Insiders at the itty-bitty-city's City Hall have shown their colors again.
Color them cowardly, colorless and tasteless: your 2019-2020 St. Augustine City Commission is owned and controlled by Bolesians, as MICHAEL ALAN DAVIS's appointment shows.
Disgraceful people.

No privacy for people in the Congressman's office; I could hear them talking while I was at the front door.

Davis joins plan board
The City Commission Monday unanimously approved reappointment of Grant Misterly and Sarah Ryan to the Planning and Zoning Board and named contractor Mike Davis to fill the seat vacated by Carl Blow, who was term expired after serving two terms on the board.
Misterly is an engineer and Ryan and architect. Davis is president of A. D. Davis Construction, which has won awards for work on the Flagler College 4th Floor Renovation, ARC Therapeutic Learning Center, Council on Aging River House, Ponce Hall Towers, Lightner Museum lobby restoration, St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church, and Lightner Museum Grand Ballroom.
Other applicants for the board were retired printer Charles Pappas, and former board member Matthew Shaffer.
