Q&A gathering at 91 Coquina Avenue
The community is invited to an on-site Q &A gathering with staff from the city's Public Works Department at 91 Coquina Ave. this Friday, October 11 at 5:00pm.
The gathering will provide attendees an update on a project that when completed will result in the creation of South Davis Shores' first pocket park and a critical element in flood control infrastructure.
Earlier this year the city had the opportunity to acquire the property whose location will fill two important needs for the neighborhood: the development of a passive waterfront park and the installation of high-tech infrastructure that will serve to alleviate frequent flooding caused by excessive tides.
During the on-site gathering city staff, including Public Works Director Mike Cullum will offer an update on the progress of the project including the status of the permits required from the St. Johns River Water Management District and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection before much of the flood control work can begin.
Key to the development of the site is the removal of the small 1940s cottage which has been acquired the by the Florida Agricultural Museum. Although delayed because of Hurricane Dorian, the museum's preparations for the cottage's relocation is expected to begin later this week. After relocation to the museum's property in Flagler County it will be restored and become part of its numerous interpretative exhibits.
In spite of that delay, the city has begun the initial site work by placing several loads of fill dirt on the property and removing some of the invasive vegetation.
Residents in the South Davis Shores neighborhood may want to walk or ride bicycles to Friday's gathering since parking in the area may be limited.
