St. Augustine City Attorney ISABELLE CHRISTINE LOPEZ strikes again.
The maladroit City of St. Augustine did no research on the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the First Amendment, Florida's Sunshine law, Article I, Section 24 of our Florida Constitution, or Florida Statute 286. Expect t litigation to follow.
When ISABELLE CHRISTINE LOPEZ was hired, without a proper EEO search, two of five City Commissioners stated, "She protects us."
Who is "us?"
"Protects us?"
From whom?
For whom?

From Former Mayor George R. Gardner's St. Augustine Report:
Phone calls out in
virtual meetings
“There was a bit of a talk show atmosphere” during the City Commission’s last meeting, City Attorney Isabelle Lopez noted as she introduced a resolution Monday to restrict phone calls and redesign email presentations during virtual meetings.
“We were having difficulty lining up our phone calls, whether people were repeatedly calling…. One lady complained that she had been on hold for four hours.”
Mayor Tracy Upchurch said, “The last meeting I had no control. There were multiple calls from the same numbers, they were debating each other.”
After a half hour discussion, the commission voted 4-1 to forego phone calls.
Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline opposed the measure. “We’ve worked to increase public interaction. This resolution gives me pause. I’d rather see us stretch the other way, so it’s easier for the public to engage with us.”
