One of my Georgetown freshman government textbooks was entitled, "Democracy Under Pressure."
Our democracy in St. Johns County faces numerous pressures, including developers, contractors and racists.
Some influential Dull Republicans are attempting to block a routine Gay Pride Month proclamation by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.
Who are they?
Will they come forward and identify themselves?
Will they cease and desist from Sunshine violations, e.g., purporting to tell Commissioners how other Commissioners would vote on a Gay Pride resolution?
Who's afraid of the Ku Klux Klan?
Is the KKK still exercising a Philistine's Veto in the place called "the most lawless in America by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.?
"Be not afraid!"
These words are in the Bible some 106 times.
Saint Pope John Paul II chose these as the first three words he spoke to Roman Catholics upon his election as Pope.
Nowhere does Jesus Christ utter a word about homosexuality. He taught Christians to love one another.
But some in political power and influence abuse the Bible to preach heretical hatred, of Gays, Lesbians, Transgender People, African-Americans, Roman Catholics, Jews, Muslims, etc. Ad infinitum.
The hatred that "dare not say its name" -- homophobia is rearing its evil bead in our town tonight.
Some of our local St. Johns County officials are the objects of scorn and ostracism, simply for advancing a routine resolution supporting GLBTQIA+ Pride Month in June 2021.
On March 8, 2021, a routine request was sent to the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners for a resolution and proclamation honoring June 2021 as GLBTQIA+ Pride Month.
It's a simple request, one honored repeatedly by the local cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach.
It has been 51 days since the request.
Nothing in writing.
No written response to the two months-old request for a resolution for a proclamation, similar to those adopted by the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach honoring June as GLBTQIA+ month.
Anyone on County Commission opposing Gay Pride or Gay rights need to come out of the closet.
Come make your case, or not.
Kindly put the proposed resolution on the Consent Agenda.
Let any Commissioner exercise their prerogative to remove it from the Consent Agenda -- any Commissioner could request it be put it on the Regular Agenda and discuss it.
If not, it will pass unanimously, after public comment on the Consent Agenda.,
America's people of faith and hundreds of corporations support Gay Pride and Gay rights.
Locally, we are not going to indulge the prejudices of a few rebarbative retromingent reprobates, are we?
We do not trim our sails and stand in deference to fear or ignorance, or fear of ignorance?
Don't deny us a public vote by our Commissioners, one way or another.
Don't rely on political KKK-style "churches" and histrionic hypocrites.
Hypocrites: come forward and identify yourselves. Speak at County Commission on May 4, 2021.

Or stop attempting to exercise a Philistine's Veto by Sunshine violations with Commissioners, sharing little tidbits that could make all of you defendants in a criminal prosecution for Sunshine violations.
Preacher's kid HUNTER SINCLAIR CONRAD, a licensed attorney, is County Administrator. Is he "polling" Commissioners to defeat the Gay Pride resolution? Is his father?
Who's afraid of the Ku Klux Klan, John Birch Society, Proud Boy, Three Percenters, and Tea Party?
Not me. As Thomas Jefferson said, "I have sworn upon the Altar of Almighty God, eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of [humankind]."
You tell me, Commissioners.
Kindly place the proposed resolution on the Consent Agenda, and we're done.
Otherwise, will GLBTQIA+ people be required to file and win another federal lawsuit??
