The Federal Elections Commission is dysfunctional by design. As in other Florida election corruption cases, like PBSJ, the FEC deadlocked, 3-3, with three Democrats voting to proceed and three Dull Republicans voting to close the case and coverup for RICHARD LYNN SCOTT. Deplorable.
Footnote: At the Atlanta Placement Conference, I interviewed with FEC for an entry level staff lawyer job in 1985 and there were hopeful signs. Then I learned in a telephone conversation with the Deputy General Counsel that there was an FEC hiring freeze. Moments later, the Space Shuttle Challenger blew up.
Like two (2) NASA Space Shuttles, the FEC suffers from defective design.
Having an equal number of seats for two political parties and none for anyone else guarantees failure.
Congress mucked up (again) in writing federal election campaign laws. Desuetude (non enforcement) is exactly what the rich and powerful had in mind.
In hindsight, I'm rather grateful for the 1985-86 FEC hiring freeze.
It opened the door to my accepting the very last law clerk offer from the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Administrative Law Judges for the 1986-88 term, after I got a second interview in Washington, D.C during Spring Break. (Thanks for the hiring freeze go to President Ronald Reagan and thanks for hiring g me to our late USDOL Chief Judge Nahum Litt! (1979-1995), who was previously CALJ at the Civil Aeronautics Board.
