GOP measure would stop federal contractor minimum wage from becoming permanent

Former Tennessee Governor and U.S. Senator LAMAR ALEXANDER (R-Lockheed Martin) and other louche Republicans loathe the minimum wage and went to abolish it.  Unhinged

U.S. Representative LAUREN OPAL BOEBERT (R-Colorado) wants to stop the increase in wages for federal contractor employees from becoming permanent.

When I was riding circuit, defending the rights of ethical whistleblowers, I once took the sworn deposition of Martin Marietta, later Lockheed Martin, CEO Norman R. Augustine.

Mr. Augustine wrote in one of his published books, distributed to Martin Marietta employees, that federal contractors should be paid extra money to comply with federal laws incorporated in their contracts, including anti-corruption, environment al and non-discrimination laws.

Mr. Augustine was Under Secretary of the Army 1975-1977.  Jimmy Breslin wrote in his book about Watergate, How the Good Guys Finally Won, that the subtext of every zoning law was, "Bring extra money" (e.g., for lobbyists, lawyers and bagmen).

President Biden has issued an Executive Order raising the minimum wage for employees of federal contractors.  It is the right thing to do.

Rep. BOEBERT wants to keep the wage raise from becoming permanent.  Even though government contractor corporations are being paid for their work, they want to screw their employees.  Right-wingers despise worker rights.  They elect nasty nattering nabobs of negativism and unhinged ninnies like insurrectionist BOEBERT, talking nonsense to attract votes from the booboisie.

Fun fact: The Chamber of Commerce of the United States was founded by President William Howard Taff as an anti-labor organization.  The local St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce has long held biennial public political gatherings where local candidates are illegally  asked to "bring extra money" to talk to voters.  As a candidate, I have objected to and declined their indecent invitation to commit a crime and violate Florida election law to fatten their labor-baiting carpetbagging coffers.

WASHINGTON — A move by lawmakers to make permanent an increase the minimum wage for federal contractors as part of the annual defense authorization bill faces Republican opposition as the measure heads to the House floor for debate.

Included in the sweeping military spending measure, which Congress has passed every year for more a half-century, is language that would codify President Joe Biden’s executive order guaranteeing a $15-an-hour minimum wage for employees at companies doing business with the federal government.

The move went into effect in January and covered about 300,000 workers.

Democrats in Congress included the language in the defense bill to ensure that the policy will stay in effect even after Biden departs the White House. However, Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., introduced an amendment that would strike it.
