Remember when he had a seven-day a week printed newspaper of general circulation, with local office editors, reporters, news coverage, letters and opinion columns? Remember how our civic life and opinions were the enter of daily news coverage? We just had a local election, with no meaningful coverage, debate, letters or opinion columns. Our local government and its functions were once covered by the St. Augustine Record, back when it was a newspaper and not a ghost paper. My late friend and mentor Nat Caldwell, Pulitzer Prize winner at the Nashville Tennessean, was filled with a sense of mourning and grief when his once-great newspaper was purchased by GANNETT. I feel the same way now about GANNETT's purchase of the St. Augustine Record, now a ghost paper. From Historic City News:
