In the Dartmouth College case, Senator Daniel Webster defended his alma mater against an overbearing New Hampshire state government overreach. He won. Wikipedia reports:
The trustees retained Dartmouth alumnus Daniel Webster, a New Hampshire lawyer who later became a U.S. Senator for Massachusetts and Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Webster argued the college's case against William H. Woodward, the state-approved secretary of the new board of trustees. Webster's speech in support of Dartmouth (which he called "a small college," adding, "and yet there are those who love it") was reportedly so moving that it helped convince Chief Justice John Marshall and almost brought Marshall to tears, according to the later recollection of attendant Chauncey A. Goodrich.[3]
Since 2006, I have defended the independence of our Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns County against misguided efforts by St. Johns County oligarchs to take it over. We won. It is a small independent special taxing district with crucial functions protecting public health.
I have also defended taxpayers against AMCD's wasteful spending, sloth and torpor. We need more critical thinking skills in our effort to protect public health from deadly mosquito borne disease. In 1943, a mosquito in Sicily bit my Father, a WWII 82nd ABN DIVN paratrooper, who suffered for the resst of is life from the effects of malaria. (My dad helped liberate the first French town from the Nazis on June 6, 1944. The South Jersey Chapter of the 82nd ABN DIVN ASSN is named for my Father. I was honored to receive an 82nd ABN DIVN ASSN scholarship to defray some of the expenses from attending Georgetown. University,)
In my Father's honor, I am honored to run for the board if the Anastasia Mosquito Control District of St. Johns Count. The election is November 3, 2026.
