A 54-year-old Ponte Vedra Beach man who once commanded a U.S. Navy submarine has pleaded not guilty to charges that he raped a 22-year-old woman who worked and lived aboard his yacht in Nantucket Harbor.
Christian Bradley Williams pleaded not guilty to three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery during his Sept. 4 arraignment in Nantucket District Court, according to The Boston Globe.
Williams was released on $50,000 bail and is due back in court in October, the Globe reported.
His attorney, Thomas A. Kokonowski, told the newspaper that the allegations are baseless.
The charges stem from an alleged Aug. 9 assault aboard Williams’ yacht, Chimera, which had been moored in Nantucket Harbor since late June, according to a police report obtained by the Nantucket Current.
The woman arrived on the island in early June to work for the Nantucket Launch Company, the report says. The company’s 24-year-old owner, Max Shapiro, arranged for her to stay aboard the Chimera after Williams’ family offered lodging.
In exchange, she worked as a deckhand, running the vessel’s generator, doing laundry and retrieving water.
Williams lived aboard the yacht with his wife, their young son and the child’s nanny, the Current reported. On Aug. 9, his family flew to Florida while Williams remained in Nantucket, where he planned to stay through mid-September.

St. Johns County Property records show that Williams purchased a home in Ponte Vedra Beach in 2020.
That afternoon, according to the police report, Williams asked the woman to wear a dress because he wanted to take her to dinner.
During the evening, Williams allegedly called her “sweety,” referred to her as his “sugar mommy” for the night and said her boyfriend was “stupid” for not locking her down, according to reports.
By 8 p.m., the woman said she felt nervous and wanted to return to the yacht.
Williams allegedly asked her to put the dinner on her credit card because he did not want his wife to see the transaction, then withdrew $500 and gave it to her even though the bill was about $250, the report says.
After they returned to the yacht around 8:30 p.m., the woman said she wanted to go to bed, but Williams was “very persistent” about having another drink.
Williams made her a rum drink, after which she became extremely dizzy and lost her vision, she told police. It was only her second alcoholic drink of the day, according to the report.
The woman alleged that Williams then got on top of her and held her down with his full body weight as she repeatedly told him, “I’m your employee, please get off me.”
A hospital examination later detected male DNA, with results returned Sept. 1, the report says.
The woman told police that Shapiro brushed off her account the following morning and asked whether she had been clocked in. Shapiro disputed that characterization, telling the New York Post that the account of their conversation on the dock was inaccurate and that he is supporting the investigation.
Williams took command of the nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Springfield in 2012, according to the Navy News Service.
