The new group, 300 Concerned Citizens, voted to endorse Nancy Shaver for Mayor last night, and Nancy Sikes-Kline and John Valdes for Commissioner.
There was a frank discussion of racial issues and the need for healing here, and policy changes.
Mayor JOE BOLES talked about 1970, when he and high school classmates stood up for the right of an African-American classmate to be on homecoming float, but he did not justify our City's zero black police officers and zero firemen.
Challenger Nancy Shaver trounced Boles, who said Commissioners only get to hire thee people, by saying Commissioners set policies.
I pointed out that there are dozens of board appointees, with zero African-Americans on the 15-member Visioning Committee.
