Fish Island will be preserved forever.
The North Florida Land Trust has obtained a conservation easement,
Executive Jim McCarthy informed our St. Johns County Legislative Delegation today.
The site of the bones of Jesse Fish (Florida's first corrupt realtor), and a beautiful iconic marsh on the southeast side of the SR312 bridge over the Matanzas River (above), the site was slated for a 1200 foot long boat dock and more ugly condos, sequelae of the ancien regime here in St. Augustine.
Even though City Commissioners defeated it, then-Mayor JOSEPH LESTER BOLES, JR. and his Commission henchmen voted to approve it under threat of Bert J. Harris, Jr. Private Property Protection Act litigation.
The development orders expired, a recent financial audit narrative revealed.
Now Fish Island is subject to a conservation easement.
Now Fish Island can become a park -- a real one -- not the joke of a half-park that corrupt developers and their counsel (the late GEORGE MORRIS McCLURE) half-promised (a half acre behind a gated community -- a gated community that will never happen.

Fish Island is now preserved forever.
Let Fish Island become part of the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore, first proposed by Mayor Walter Fraser, Senator Claude Pepper, et al. in 1939, 76 years ago.
