Watching our five Republican St. Johns County Commissioners rubber-stamp $110,000,000 in Industrial Development Authority bonds for controversial Flagler Hospital on August 1, 2017 gave me pause.
I raised reasoned and documented concerns about rampant medical malpractice, merger mania, a high level of preventable infections leading to Affordable Care Act penalties, and an all-white board of directors.
Not one of my concerns was answered.
Not one Commissioner asked any tough questions.
But I earned a nasty interruption from an appointee of Governor RICHARD LYNN SCOTT, Commission Chairmsn JAMES JOHNS, who claimed my concerns were off-topic.
How gauche, louche and uncouth of Chairman JOHNS, the developer-funded Commissioner from District 1, appointed to replace Commissioner CYNDI STEVENSON after after she resigned to run for state legislator. JOHNS is principal in FLORIDA SOLID ROCK ENGINEERING CONSULTANTS, INC., which he describes as "which now serves clients across the Southeastern United States, providing land planning, design and permitting services for private and public developments."
Is he a dull Republican, a developer-funded, developer-coddling drone: a disgrace to the human race?
Does anyone else remember when Republicans were supposed to be fiscal conservatives?
Not one of my concerns was answered.
Wonder why?
Republicans seem to have emotional problems with questioning Flagler Hospital.
Republicans seem to have emotional problems with First Amendment protected activity generally, from the Whitey House to the monochromatic St. Johns County Commission -- all-male, all-white and all Republican.
Flagler Hospital CEO JOE GORDY left the room look angry, but fulfilled, his dull Republican colleagues having rubber-stamped his $110,000,000 worth of bonds without question, unanimously.
Click here for a list of JOHNS' campaign contributors in his vicious election campaign in 2016, where developers pumped out vicious mailers and tv ads against his opponent in the only universal primary that was held in 2016
