Ignorant letter looks bad for your city
Editor: Your choice of letters printed in “Opinions” has me scratching my head and rethinking who are the kind of people who live in St Augustine. “Of gays and God” is so ignorant, so uninspiring, and so non-persuasive that it casts a very poor light on St Augustine. Maybe the reader should listen to the Pope’s opinion (I am not Catholic) and look at heterosexual divorce rates (I am not homosexual) before casting stones — but that is beside the point.
Please choose letters that are at least semi-intelligent. Do not make St. Johns County look ignorant (and a place that someone would not want to move to), and that point out a perspective worthy of consideration.
By the way, we need more updates on repairing the eroding beaches to keep the fire under our legislators and those who could fund such critical projects.
Bridgewater, N.J.
Editor’s note: Ms. Gladfelter said by phone that she’s interested in local issues because St. Augustine is on a short-list of three cities she and her husband are seeking to move to.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
