Fulminating no-fun First Amendment violators -- resembling the town council in the movie "Footloose -- habitual violators of the First Amendment in county parks were foiled and got their comeuppance -- 5-0 vote by County Commission on August 4.
The St. Augustine Beach Civic Association had a urgent meeting of its Executive Board tonight -- what are they doing next?
Is SABCA violating state and federal laws?
Is it liable for a civil rights lawsuit by activist Bill Rosenstock?
SABCA is too big for its britches, and President WILLIAM JONES and should resign.
While SABCA won renewal of its $1/year lease of a former city police building after a two hour debate, its victory was Pyrrhic. JONES falsely claimed there were "hundreds of documented complaints" about First Amendment protected activity.
What a schnorer -- he wears his Sheriff's Department shirt and ID in public, trying to intimidate people, possibly violating 42 U.S.C. 1983.
From now on, civil rights violations are being monitored and reported.
From now on, no-bid leases are going out of style.
Meanwhile, another unctuous putative "non-profit," the St. Augustine Lighthouse, is displaying its animus toward protected activity and the public disc. It long had a $1/year lease from St. Johns County, but on March 4, 2014, five Republican County Commissioners rubber-stamped a no-bid sale of the Lighthouse and some seven (7) acres, taking only six(6) minutes to do so, without proper notice to the Lighthouse neighborhood.
So ill-advised is the Lighthouse's management that it withholds its safety manual and charges employees for ice water.
Enough non-profit abuse of power.
Enough cruelty.
Enough "non-profits" that expect to be adored.
We take care of our own.
We scrutinize piratical behavior, including de facto political action committees in the false flag of charities.
Enough one-party Republican fraud, waste, abuse, misfeasance, malfeasance, nonfeasance, flummery, dupery, nincompoopery, no-bid contracts, discrimination and tomfoolery.
We, the People are being heard and heeded.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
