How cool is that? Everything's up to date in St. Johns County. Except the County government, which like the horse, is in a ditch. We, the People will help it get out of the ditch, electing a reform Sheriff and other reformers who respect democracy, human and civil rights, the environment and the public fisc.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue personnel put some recent training to good use Thursday when they rescued a horse from a muddy ditch along U.S. 1.
Firefighters, trained in large animal rescue techniques, responded to a call of a fallen horse north of the airport around 1 p.m., SJCFR spokesman Capt. Jeremy Robshaw said.
The owner told Fire Rescue personnel that the horse was participating with him in a multi-state ride when it stopped to get a drink of water along the train tracks and slid into the ditch.
“It was pretty muddy in the bottom of the ditch,” Robshaw said.
SJCFR received a grant just last year to train and equip crews to deal with such situations, according to Robshaw. Because of that training, the firefighters were able to use a large sled, harness and other equipment designed specifically for large animals to haul the horse out of the mud, he said.
“It seemed the horse was fine,” Robshaw said.
It was transported to a local veterinarian for additional care and evaluation.
