Today is the first day of Spring. Here's my quote du jour:
"[B]y the words we speak and the faces we show the world, we force the spring. A spring reborn in the world's oldest democracy that brings forth the vision and courage to reinvent America." -- President William Jefferson Clinton, January 20, 1993 Inaugural Address (written by the late Georgetown University President and New York Public Library President Father Timothy Healy, S.J., who left a draft of the Inaugural Address in his briefcase, found after he dropped dead in the Newark Airport, returning from vacation in the southwest).
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
