Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Our City of St. Augustine is now using door hangars to warn residents when aging pipes break, requiring boil water notices. See below.
"Precautionary Boil Water Notices" are the standard of care and legally required whenever a pipe breaks.
We've urged the City to start using door hangars, instead of relying on its website and the media.
Thanks, guys -- you've finally joined the ranks of tens of thousands of cities and used the same simple technology you use to notify people of water cutoffs to warn them when their water might be contaminated with sewage from the City's leaky pipes.
However, the City of St. Augustine's "Precautionary Boil Water Notice" door hangars distributed to residents have a blank space for the date and a blank space for the date when the notice is expected to expire.
Next time, fill in at least one date, please.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
