For the arrival of a first class relic of the Catholic Church which arrived in town this week. The relic is the actual finger of St. Augustine of Hippo, dating back to 430 A.D. It is on loan to the Cathedral Basilica from the Vatican for the city’s 450th celebration, and will remain on display here through September.
For the city’s look at initiating a cooling off period between permitting for demolition of historic structures and the actual demolition. The period allows challenges to be made to demolition decisions, and should not excessively hinder efforts by owners or builders. We have only one history. It’s important to get it right.
For the recent spate of afternoon thundershowers that have lowered the threat of wildfires in St. Johns and adjoining counties.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
