MAYOR GEORGE GARDNER'S GAUCHERIE: MAYOR GARDNER'S BOOMBOX DROWNS OUT LINCOLNVILLE FESTIVAL's LIVE JAZZ
On November 4, 2006, for several hours, MAYOR GEORGE GARDNER and his surly campaign loudly played classical music on a boombox at one end of Washington Street, drowning out the excellent jazz music being played at the other end of the street. GARDNER's classical selections were middlebrow, including Elgar's Pomp and Circumstances and Royal Fireworks Music.
What does one expect from someone who fancies himself a Spanish pr British monarch, a third-generation politician who brags of attending 36 churches and votes to violate First Amendment rights, earning rebukes from a Federal Court?.
This is the same dull politician who responded to the suggestion of live Spanish guitar music at the Visitor Information Center and Spanish Quarter Village and St. George Street by suggesting recorded music and a sound system.
GEORGE GARDNER does not get it. His claims to support the arts are, at best, facetious. This is the man who did not keep his promise to restore artists, entertainers and musicians to St. George Street, whose campaign literally drowned out jazz musicians at the Lincolnville Festival yesterday.
GARDNER playing recorded classical music seemed to say, "look at me, I'm the economic royalist Republican lord of all I survey, I'm the King of San Agustin."
GARDNER is the crabbed politician who actually said "we don't have an oar in that water" when a Canadian billionaire slashed the pay and benefits of employees of Ripley's Believe it or Not! Museum and the Tour Trains, refused to discuss a living wage and broke his promises for "answers" to questions about the City's illegal dumping.
While GARDNER's grandfather was the elected Socialist Mayor of Schenectady, New York, GARDNER is a corporate socialist, an anti-social gladhander who knows not that he knows not that he knows not.
Tatterdemalion GARDNER's takes campaign contributions from the likes of controversial "developer" ROBERT MICHAEL GRAUBARD, a willful man who wants to destroy our history, archaeology and environment to make profits for himself and his investors.
Enough.
People see right through Mayor GEORGE GARDNER's false promises and bigotry.
GARDNER's a phony.
In fact, Mayor GARDNER packed up and left early two out of three days of the Lincolnville Festival, with his hands in his pockets for much of the day on November 4.
GARDNER's unkept promises do not merit another term.
Voters get to decide his future on Tuesday. There are 33,000 reasons to vote against GARDNER -- one for every single one of 13,000 residents and one for every single cubic yard of contaminants illegally dumped in the Old City Reservoir on GARDNER's watch. As EPA says, "there are no bedsprings in clean fill" -- or arsenic or gallium, either.
Vote for Lincolnville's Peter Romano for Mayor and City Commissioner. Peter Romano is the real deal, and wants to restore neighborhood rights to direct representation on City Commission, while preseving history and our environment, while conserving public funds and stopping waste on the likes of GARDNER's $22 million Taj Mahal (the underutilized parking garage).
Vote to save our City from CITY MANAGER WILLIAM B. HARRISS and misfeasance malfeasance, nonfeasance, waste, fraud, abuse, pollution, environmental destruction, nepotism, cronyism and worse.
For $5000/citizen per year, we're not getting our money's worth.
See below.
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
