Re: Dawdling and Pettifoggery by St. Johns County Sheriff's Office in Responding to My March 18 & 22, 2011 Open Records Requests
Dear Sheriff Shoar:
1. I have not yet received one (1) record, only an outlandish, unexplained "estimate" for weeks of search time from Mr. Cline. Mr. Cline's approach to the Open Records law is disreputable and disrespectful and disdainful. To whom does your Mr. Cline think he is talking?
2. Some 82% of Florida voters approved Article I, Section 24 of the Florida Constitution in 1992 -- more than 3.8 million voters voted for our Open Records and Sunshine laws.
3. Your Mr. Cline would wipe his boots on our Open Records law rights. Do you endorse and approve his actions?
4. Please E-mail the requested records by close of business today.
5. Since the St. Augustine Underground determined that all of the information your Department presented to it was false, based upon the Tennessee Supreme Court spokesman's information, your attempting to charge me $5200 for these records is, at best, unconscionable. See http://staugustineunderground.net/2011/staugustine/news/florida/blog-wars-the-sad-state-of-new-media-in-the-nations-oldest-city/1908/
6. Some would call such unexplained high cost estimates from a government agency a "badge of fraud."
7. What do you reckon?
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ed Slavin
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
