Trumpery hoist on its own petard.

It's time for Donald Trump's lawyers to get real about the the documents the FBI seized from Mar-a-Lago. In addition to claiming that the he had declassified the documents, Trump had accused the FBI of planting evidence at his Florida estate. Now, Judge Raymond Dearie wants to clear up the confusion. He has ordered Trump's team to state by the end of the month whether the DOJ had incorrectly described any of the seized items, the Washington Post reports, and to say whether any of the items on the Justice Department's inventory list had not actually been taken from the premises. Yesterday, Trump insisted on Fox News that he had "declassified everything." "If you’re the president of the United States, you can declassify just by saying ‘it’s declassified,'" he said, "even by thinking about it." If you need more information on why this is preposterous, well, here's an explainer. Read our previous coverage of the saga here, and then check out Judge Dearie's full order to Trump's team here. —Abigail Weinberg |
