Editor: After seeing and listening to the St. Augustine City Commission meeting on Aug. 13, I was just shocked at City Commission Errol Jones's statement the tourists should just leave their money and just go away.
How dare he make that kind of a statement. He owes an apology to every tour operator, the folks who work in our information center, the folks who work in every aspect of tourism in St. Augustine and St. Johns County.
My mother was a tour guide for 47 years in St. Augustine. I was taught to always be courteous to our visitors because they helped pay for our livelihood.
There are a lot of volunteers who work hard to make our visitors have a pleasant stay. For one of our city commissioners to make that statement, is a slap in the face to everyone in the tourism industry.
Errol Jones, just leave your money and go away.

In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
