We object. Our natural beauty, history and culture here in St. Augustine, Florida would be destroyed by offshore oil drilling.
The use of sound as loud as a howitzer would destroy endangered and protected ocean creatures. This is so wrong.
Our endangered right whales (350 left) have their babies off our coast here -- it is their winter calving grounds. It is also home to endangered turtles that lay their eggs on our beaches, and other endangered flora and fauna.
Instead of carving up the Atlantic Ocean for unneeded oil development, Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell needs to move on with commemorating our Nation's Oldest City's 450th anniversary.
The current Federal 450th Commemoration Commission is not doing the task it was assigned by Interior. Instead it is violating the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) by holding secret meetings and conference calls. The Commission has not met in the Sunshine for three years. At its inaugural meeting, on July 11, 2011 at Flagler College Auditorium, I was applauded by the audience for supporting the St. Augustine National Historical Park and National Seashore. Interior needs to support the National Park and Seashore, and protect our coast, instead of endangering it. See www.staugustgreen.com
