1. Four years ago, Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline declined to go to Spain when four other Commissioners were going to do so, which would have violated the Sunshine law, because they were going to conduct "business." (Eventually, only one Commissioner went to Spain, after the Florida First Amendment Foundation became involved and the law firm of Holland & Knight agreed to represent eighteen of us, filing an Open Records lawsuit.)
2. City staff confirm that Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline is the ONLY City Commissioner who has never accepted a city-paid trip to Spain.
3. On June 23, 2014, MAYOR JOSEPH LESTER BOLES, JR. said he was going to Spain at his own expense, and invited other Commissioners to join.
4. Commissioner Nancy Sikes-Kline advises that she has declined the invitation from MAYOR BOLES, stating: "Ed, please let me point out that regarding going to Spain, I was invited to go 4 yrs ago and declined (I was the only one to decline) as the story reads. I have been invited this year and have again declined."
Three cheers for Nancy Sikes-Kline!
Viva!
Viva!
Viva!
In secret, behind locked gates, our Nation's Oldest City dumped a landfill in a lake (Old City Reservoir), while emitting sewage in our rivers and salt marsh. Organized citizens exposed and defeated pollution, racism and cronyism. We elected a new Mayor. We're transforming our City -- advanced citizenship. Ask questions. Make disclosures. Demand answers. Be involved. Expect democracy. Report and expose corruption. Smile! Help enact a St. Augustine National Park and Seashore. We shall overcome!
